History
of
KADY
Television
and
it's
evolution
to
the
Internet |
|
1980's |
Actress Pia
Zadora is
married to
wealthy
financier
Menachem
Riklas who
produces a
movie for
her to star
in. She wins
the Golden
Globe as
best new
actress of
the year
and the
movie is
voted The
Worst Movie
of the Year.
Everyone in
Hollywood
made some
fun and Riklas had
to do
something to
pacify the
crowd. He
went to
Santa
Barbara and
purchased a
defunct
Television
Station
called KBIE
and moved it
to Oxnard. He
then changed
the call
letters to
KADY in
honor of of
the first
daughter and
also the
name of the
character
that she
played in
the movie. |
1990-1995 |
Riklas
brings in
John Huddy
from Miami
to produce a
"Daily News
Hour"
focusing on
Ventura
County.
Tracy Lehr
and Joe
Buttitta
(former
California
Angels and
UCLA Bruins
announcer)
as co-hosts.
This lasts
until 1995
when Huddy
is forced
into
claiming
bankruptcy
for Kady
Television.
As an
aside, Huddy
writes a
Best Seller
Book and his
daughter is
an anchor on
Fox News. |
1995-2004 |
KADY TV is
purchased
out of
Bankruptcy
by Biltmore
Broadcasting
and becomes
a UPN
Affiliate
doing away
with most
locally
produced
content. In
2004, the
station is
sold and the
call letters
are changed
to KBEH, a
Spanish
Language
broadcasting
channel that
is still
operating as
Channel 63
on UHF.

1998-2001 |
In 1998, a
good
personal
friend becomes
General
Sales
Manager for Kady
Television
as it moves
to
Camarillo.
As the
Internet was
prominent in
my thinking
at that
time, I
researched
the Domain
name
KadyTV.com
and
purchased it
for $10 in
1998.
A Huntsville
Alabama
company
called
Digital
Education
approached
us to create
Kady
University
online,
teaching
courses like
Microsoft
Office and
others. A
studio was
opened at
Camarillo
Airport.

2001-2008 |
After 9-11,
Biltmore
Broadcasting
let us know
that they
were going
to be
selling Kady
Television
to a Spanish
Language
group that
was going to
change the
call
letters. We
put
KadyTV.com
to sleep and
maintained
ownership of
the Domain
through
yearly
payments.

2008 |
In February,
2008, a
tragic event
occurred in
Port Hueneme
where a
young
student was
killed in a
classroom.
There were
almost 20
helicopters
hovering
over the
site most of
the day.
That
Saturday, 8
new C130
Airplanes
were being
commissioned
at Point Mugu to
replace the
2 older
aircraft,
one of which
I had been
in in
2000....
here is the
link to
pictures
from that
day

I chose to
take out the
old press
passes and
camera and
visit Point
Mugu that
day only to
find that I
was the ONLY
media source
there
covering the
event. That
evening
KadyTV.com
was back on
the Air. |
2008-2012 |
September
19, 2008
launches our
Live
Streaming of
High School
Sports. Oaks
Cristian
School in
Westlake is
our home
turf and on
the field
for that
first games
was Nick
Montana,
Trevor
Gretsky and
Trey Smith....with
their dads
Joe, Wayne
and Will
standing on
the
sidelines we
became
noticed
quite
quickly.
Expanding a
little too
fast in 2009
we were shot
down by CIF
and had to
go back to a
more
traditional
LOCAL
Television
business
plan with
the opening
of our first
Studio at
the River
Park
Executive
Suites in
Oxnard.
Moving to
Ventura
Executive
Suites in
2010, we
teamed with
Maria
Sanchez,
formerly
local radio
host for the
afternoon
drive time
hours and
started a
daily show
in the
Studio
bringing in
many of the
leaders of
the
community.
We also went
out of
studio to
the Reagan
Library and
CSUCI for
their CEO
Series and
soon became
well known
in the
community as
a source of
"Good
Things"
happening.
We opened
our first
local studio
in Channel
Islands
Harbor and
had Tracy
Lehr, well
known local
reporter who
is also
anchor for
KEYT TV in
Santa
Barbara as a
morning host
interviewing
local
dignitaries
and elected
officials.
